Although a small start-up NGO, we have big dreams: to bring financial services to rural agricultural communities. Our extension team of a development economist and a management accountant serve as technical advisers to help the community itself design and build up its own community bank or other financial services.
Currently we are in the early stage of developing our model, which is being piloted in the rural Ecuadorian community of Cochas. Cochas is an isolated, high-up (11,000 feet), indigenous Andean community that offers spectacular views, rich soil and natural resources, and the friendliest and most humble people you will ever meet. Working with the leaders of the community, we have begun a community bank that will serve the financial services needs of the community, offering at first savings products, and then developing credit and other products that will address the unique needs of this rural community.
